Landscape: Chase
William Merritt Chase, "First Touch of Autumn" (about 1898). Indianapolis Museum of Art. From: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Merritt_Chase_-_First_Touch_of_Autumn_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg This has become one of my new favorite paintings. Although the scene is Shinnecock Hills, Long Island, the scene reminds me of places in the West where old roads like the National Old Trails Highway, the Lincoln Highway, and old Route 66 can still be discerned in the landscape.
Copied under fair use principles.
